Thursday 29th June, 14:00-15:30 (Africa/Blantyre)
UbuntuNet Alliance, in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS), will be hosting this webinar as our second joint one of the year.
During the first part of this webinar session, we will hear from the AWS team about the significant success achieved by universities in Africa, and around the world, that have adopted cloud services to enhance student experiences. The AWS team will explain how they assisted these institutions in achieving their goals. The session will also cover the specific services utilised by the institutions and the benefits they gained in terms of cost savings, speed, agility and system availability.
The second part of the webinar will focus on how higher education institutions and research institutions can build resilient systems using AWS services. With AWS, institutions no longer need to be concerned about capacity requirements for their school systems. They can increase speed and agility by leveraging these systems, and create infrastructure that will support the storing and sharing of information across all departments in the modern world.
While ransomware incidents can impact businesses and organisations of various types, research institutions and universities have increasingly become targets of these attacks. Such attacks render files and dependent systems unusable, which cripples the institutions and disrupts normal learning activities. AWS has demonstrated that institutions can establish a resilient and robust environment using AWS Backups. These backups are designed to utilise the global AWS infrastructure, replicating systems across multiple Availability Zones to ensure durability and high availability.
