Open Science Training for Librarians: 25 October 2023

As part of the AfricaConnect3 project, UbuntuNet Alliance invites proposals from librarians to submit proposals to participate in a one-day Open Science training collocated with the UbuntuNet-Connect 2023 Conference.

The training will take place on October 25, 2023 in Kampala, Uganda and will cover relevant aspects of Open Access and Open Data with a hands-on exercise on how to make institutional repositories FindableAccessibleInteroperable, and Reusable (see FAIR principles, https://www.go-fair.org/fair-principles/).

Below is the outline of the training:

Session IIntroducing Open Science and the FAIR principles:

    • AfricArXiv OA principles
    • Persistent Identifiers: ORCID, ROR, DOI
Session IIComparing scholarly repository systems:

    • Archiving features
    • Content curation and metadata strategy
Session IIIHands-on Practical (Please bring a laptop):

    • Upload, curate, deploy scholarly content
    • Taking charge of institutional bibliometrics

The Alliance will support 20 librarians by covering the cost for a round-trip economy air ticket, full-board accommodation, local transport and participation in the UbuntuNet-Connect 2023 Conference which will run from 26 – 27 October.

Interested librarians are requested to submit a short proposal (maximum 500 words) here

Deadline for submission of proposals is August 4, 2023. Applicants will be notified by August 21, 2023.
