UbuntuNet Alliance Women Hackathon 2024

Following the resounding success of UbuntuNet Alliance’s inaugural women hackathon in 2023, held alongside the UbuntuNet-Connect 2023 conference, we are excited to announce the second women hackathon, co-funded by the European Union under the AfricaConnect3 project.

The 2023 women hackathon, led by experts from Makerere University and facilitated by Dr. Julianne Sansa Otim, brought together 18 talented female university students from six different countries. Over an intense and educational session, these young women developed innovative applications designed to enhance teaching and learning. The winning team, composed of three third-year computer science students from DMI St. Eugene University in Zambia, impressed the judges with their groundbreaking solution, leaving a lasting impact on the conference. Read all about it here.

Building on this momentum, the 2024 women hackathon invites 21 passionate young women developers from East and Southern Africa to showcase their skills and creativity. Organized into teams of three, these participants will compete under the theme “Innovate for Research and Education.” The hackathon will be a key preconference event for the upcoming UbuntuNet-Connect 2024 conference, and participants will receive complimentary registration to the conference, giving them the opportunity to engage with industry leaders and expand their networks.
