Next year’s theme, ‘Connected Futures: Advancing Africa’s Digital Sovereignty Through Open Collaboration’, highlights the power of shared digital ecosystems and federated infrastructure to advance research, innovation, and education across the continent.
WACREN 2026 will explore how Africa’s research and education communities are leveraging:
- Advanced regional connectivity powered by NRENs
- High-performance computing (HPC) and distributed compute systems
- Open data ecosystems, repositories, and publishing platforms
- LoRaWAN gateways, sensor networks, and edge devices
- Federated and community-driven digital infrastructure
The Conference will also showcase transformative WACREN-led initiatives, including LIBSENSE (open science), TrustBroker Africa (cybersecurity), Africa Digital Campus, WACREN CLI-MET, and EduAI, which are shaping a fully interconnected, trusted, and sovereign digital landscape for African research.
WACREN 2026 brings together funders, university leadership, researchers, NREN leaders, technologists, policymakers, educators, students, and innovators from across Africa and beyond—building collaboration, strengthening communities, and advancing digital sovereignty for the continent.
